csberry: (May not get to death)

Sure, there are plenty of styles of music I'm not particularly keen to listen to. But for the sake of this entry, I'm going to state the song that when I hear it on the radio, I jump to change the station. The song that isn't worth gritting my teeth and waiting for it it finish. The song that no musician has been able to cover and improve it from its pain-causing traits.

Don McLean's "American Pie" is that song for me. If you want to see me switch from my normally perky self to a seething cauldron of hatred, start singing that song. I don't know exactly why, but I lose all sense of humor about it and wish harm upon stations that play it and people that sing it. And, no, there is no way I'm posting a video for the song. If you don't know the song, consider yourself lucky and avoid going to YouTube to find it.

Thanks be to God that there aren't many cover versions of it.

Althought I pegged you as more of an "I hate Macarthur Park" sort of guy.

I don't hear "MacArthur Park" nearly enough for it to have beat out "American Pie," but it is definitely in the eye-rolling, too bad for me to like it ironically category.

MacArthur Park

You're going to have to narrow down which rendition you're referring to. The Waylon Jennings (yes, that Waylon) version in 1969? The venerable Donna Summer disco version from 1978? Or, may my lunch stay down, the Richard Harris version from 1969?

I agree. I used to like the song OK, but it's too long, but even worse is the chopped version that Q107 plays. I dislike any version of it now. It's just too long and it was so overanalyzed.

I can't sing it anymore. I always switch to the lyrics to Weird Al's "The Saga Begins" about two words in.
