[Poll #1156924]

ETA: Uh, that last part should be "Meh, not worried ABOUT it." *headdesk*

For more info, the ever-vigilant [livejournal.com profile] valiskeogh posted about the boycott HERE.

I say meh, but now that it's brought to my attention-- sure, why not.

your second question leaves out an option for 'no, the boycott wont have an affect'.

a 24 hour boycott might work for some people, but if they were dedicated to the cause they would refuse to use LJ in any way until the situation changed. and in all truth, what would 24 hours of a boycott really do?

i think the loudest of the upset users are just that, loud. they don't have the strength of will to leave LJ over this so they will stay away a day and come back and complain more.

people didn't buy LJ to give it away, they saw a way to make a profit and no amount of dissent will make them abandon that basic idea.

The "Hey, they might enjoy the drop in load" was my way of wording the "no, the boycott wont have an affect" answer.

There is a happy balance between profit and customer satisfaction. Many people seem to think the scale has pegged all the way to the evil profit side, while I think this is a minor tip to profit. I certainly can't blame their desire to cut the free sans ad accounts. It is the PR aspect of the secrecy and their creation and then snubbing of the LJ Advisory folks that concerns me as a fellow "businessman" and as a customer.

they definitely kept people in the dark over it. the whole LJ advisory board has been, and will be a powerless opinion hole. They run ideas by the board, the board gives an opinion, then the owners do what ever they want.

i dont even really care in this wanna be fight. i just got tired of people acting like taking 24 hours away from a site on the internet was some strong stand against LJ tyranny. If they really wanted to make a statement they would just leave.

until it costs LJ more to change than stay the same, no whiner 24 hour boycott is going to do anything more than generate a few discussions about the boycott.

being able to shoot oneself in the foot is a danger, but a right, in capitalism.

my god, this is such a friggin' non-issue. i have plenty of other places i can blog if it gets to that level. i might even do what my wife has done and go to wordpress if i go anywhere, but then again, i don't post very much anyway.
