Sometimes I wish there was a button on the side of my head that I could press to ensure a vivid memory.

Every night since Calvin was about 1 year old, we have consistently read two books to him nearly every night. They are "Pajama Time" and "The Going to Bed Book" - both by Sandra Boynton. Of course during this time certain rituals developed. For instance, at the end of "Pajama Time," we get progressively quieter on the final phrases:

IT'S PAJAMA TIME!
Hush, Hush
It's pajama time!
Hush, hush
it's pajama time!
shhhhhhh

Then I get right next to Calvin's ear and just loud enough to be heard by him, I say the final two lines:

good night
sleep tight

The past month or so, we've been having Calvin "read" the book. It's just him reciting the sounds that he's grown accustomed to hearing on each page, but it is just TOO PRECIOUS!

Anyways, tonight, we got to that last part of "Pajama Time" and (for the first time) Calvin gets up next to my ear and does "good nite, sleep tight."

I just melted like butter!!!

We've got both those books on the shelf, and each has been read 1.3 million times. They're good stuff.

That's cute.

Jamma jamma jamma jamma! P! J!

During that part, we move the book from side to side for each "jamma." A couple of months ago, Calvin started having his stuffed blue dog dance to the jamma parts on those two pages.

Pajama Time has some great parts, but is a bit clunky with the rhythm - especially in those final few pages. The Going to Bed Book has a better flow to it.

*realizing literary criticism was about kid's book*

Ummm...yeah, these books are good stuff.
