I awoke, ate cereal on the fly, and went out to the yard to work for the day. It has been my duty for every Saturday...and most Sundays...and maybe a couple of evenings during the week.

Don't get me wrong. I hate doing yard work. My dad started me mowing the yard in 2nd grade and had that as my "duty" from then until leaving for college. When I dreamt of my future, my life would be lived in a high rise apartment, condo, or a townhouse...anything that had little or no yard to maintain.

Then I had to ruin everything by marrying a gardener.

When you add my workaholic tendencies to the need for the landscaping in the back to be completed so Calvin can have a good mulched area for all of his climb-on's, slide, and swing set...

Everything in the house is coming together. I recall that "Spice" by the Spice Girls is CD number 400 in my first jukebox. I have to: finish up the alphabet, insert the compilations/soundtracks, classical, and decide if I want to put all of the Christmas CDs (when you're in radio, a large collection of a VARIETY of Xmas songs is always appreciated).

Pictures have been going up, curtains are all up, there is very little out on the shelves that isn't in the very-near-vicinity of where everything probably should be, and the garage should be able to fit both cars after the Scout paper drive frees me of all of my cardboard.

Outside is the Big Scary Monster that still must be overcome.

Today I borrowed my neighbor's Roto-tiller and tilled up about 1/3-1/2 of my backyard. I got it good and free to about 8 inches deep...(this sentence could easily appear in [livejournal.com profile] outherelistenin's journal - and would mean something completely different). ;) All of the utilities are underground in my neighborhood, so I had to pull up the cable. It was only a couple of inches down and pulled up too easily. Oh...I found two cables. One was dead. For some reason, it had been cut near the surface (former resident hit it w/ mower or trimmer is my guess).

Don't you know that, today, I managed to find an additional THREE coax cables running thru my backyard. They were all going to the same corner of my house but not all of them went the full distance. Thankfully, only one of them got caught by the tiller.

I was able to get the dirt shifted around some, but I still need to pile some up in a few low spots. JD and I bought about 140 feet of that metal border stuff and will put it in tomorrow.

Next weekend we'll have delivered on Friday and will spend the weekend spreading mulch and distributing Calvin's playthings about the yard.
