Jun. 1st, 2004 04:24 pmToday started out as "hard at work." After 2pm, things started shifting over to "hardly working."
We moved offices on Friday. BellSouth was to come out today and get our new phone number/line set up. My boss asked me to be at the office by 8am so I could be here when the serviceperson came by. It's around 4:30pm and I haven't seen hide nor hair of anyone from BellSouth. I called before noon and was told that they could be here anytime before 6pm.
Bastards!
It wasn't really a big deal. I had a ton of stuff that I didn't get done on Friday because of the move. On top of that, one of our clients kept me quite busy with a barrage of emails for a couple of hours in the middle of the day.
But now I'm here in the office with Coltrane blaring on the computer trying to keep myself entertained for another hour or so. Most of what I have to do needs to wait until tomorrow and I've reached the end of items that I can do today that is 100% work related. The big positive is that I'll have worked from 8am to around 6pm straight due to my paranoia of leaving for lunch and missing the miraculous appearance of a BellSouth guy. My luck, I'll leave at 5:50pm and the BellSouth guy will call at 5:55 saying he's at my office wondering where I am.
Play on 'Trane.

Date: 2004-06-01 03:21 pm (UTC)Matter of fact, I was on my mobile with my wife a little while ago, when a guy calls on the other line.
"Hello, Cory speaking."
"Who?"
"Cory"
"Oh, sorry. Wrong number."
I immediately think it's the BellSouth guy and because the work order has my boss's name (which isn't Cory) on it, he thought he had contacted a wrong number. Right after I get off the phone with My Beloved, I call that "wrong number."
"Yeah"
"Sorry, is this BellSouth?"
"What?"
"I was trying to reach BellSouth."
"Yeah."
"I had service scheduled for today and didn't know if you were the service guy."
"No, man. You've got the wrong number."
Even now I'm convinced that he was the BellSouth guy but didn't want to have to come to my office today. :(
I need a good drink or smoke after work. Erf...I don't think the wife will let me go to Humidor Pipe Shop after being at the office for 10 hours. I'm certain that Calvin has slipped into demon-mode by now.
