Of The Who albums I've listened to while going through the Rolling Stone Top 500 Albums list, this was the most enjoyable listen. There is a little bit of everything on My Generation (or The Who Sing My Generation for their US release). It is a very good album - even the "filler" is entertaining - and I can hear how it inspired other bands. The Who's music on here rocks down to the core. That kind of attitude and passion is damned contagious.
From what I read, the album had particularly loud guitars. Yes, the guitars are "aggressive" in many songs, but I'll have blame naivety on my inability to readily recognize the loudness compared to their contemporaries.
The pleasant surprise for me with My Generation was the R&B. There are two James Brown covers ("I Don't Mind" and "Please, Please, Please") that feature a soulfulness from Roger that I don't think I've ever heard before. I really enjoyed the tones his voice produced on those songs.
Don't let the few songs listed below in the "Likes" cause you to think I disliked many of the songs. Nearly all of the songs not listed below fell just below the threshold of how strongly I want to hear a song to declare it a "like" for these reviews.
Songs I Knew I liked: "My Generation"
Songs I Now Like: "The Good's Gone," "La La La Lies," and "The Ox"
Songs I Can Go the Rest of My Life Never Hearing Again: None
