465 - The Drifters - Golden Hits
Mar. 3rd, 2011 06:12 pmAnother greatest hits collection...however, there are some vitally important songs in that collection. A compilation album about the first decade of rock and roll could easily contain 5 of the songs and would be very incomplete if it didn't include at least 2 of the songs.
But, all of the historical stuff aside, how does it sound? I think "Rock and Roll Nat 'King' Cole" is a good way to describe it. The lead vocals are generally gentle, smooth, and rich like Nat's (this is more amazing considering the high turnover of the Drifters lineup). Orchestration easily dominates over the guitars, drums, and other more "rock" instruments.
Songs I knew I liked: "There Goes My Baby," "This Magic Moment," "Save the Last Dance for Me," "Some Kind of Wonderful," "On Broadway," and "Under the Boardwalk"
Songs I didn't know but now like: "Saturday Night at the Movies"
Songs I can go the rest of my life without hearing again: None.
