467 - Bob Dylan - Love and Theft
Mar. 3rd, 2011 01:10 pmMandatory Disclaimers - I don't care for listening to Bob Dylan singing. I enjoy covers of Dylan songs, but really have no interest in him. Also, as I've stated repeatedly, I don't pay attention to lyrics, so much of what people love about him is lost on me.
I've done my best to listen to this album with an open mind. I've tried ignoring that I'm listening to Bob Dylan. My mind has been distracted with trying to imagine the singer is actually Tom Waits, a Muppet, or an Eastern European singer at some club or bistro (and doing my best to not think of the lyrics as being English but some language I can't understand).
The album is okay. It's not far from what one would expect from a 70's Leon Redbone album. There were some times in songs where just the flow of lyrics was nice; I had no idea what Bob was trying to say, but the words he used sounded nice as they came out of his mouth. Other than my ears fatiguing from Dylan's voice, I don't have any complaints about the songs on Love and Theft.
Songs I knew I liked: None
Songs I didn't know but now like: There was something about "Sugar Baby" that I really enjoyed. I'm not certain what was different about it compared to most of the other tracks on the album.
Songs I can go the rest of my life without hearing again: I wouldn't ever request to listen to this album again and I wouldn't try to run away if someone put it on.
