Month of Music Meme - Day 29 - A Song From Your Childhood

I'll keep this simple. The first 45 that I bought (Yes, I'm old enough to have started my music collection on vinyl!) was "Ebony & Ivory" by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.

Oooh, I haven't heard that song in ages!

I used to have those read-along books with the vinyl record that went with it. Did you ever have any of those? I had "Get Along Gang" and "E.T. - read by Drew Barrymore". I don't have it anymore - my dad was stupid and got rid of all that stuff. I would kill to have it now.

Read-along books on record/tape

Most of my books of that sort were books on tape. My mom was a hardcore library user and I was always having those rotate in and out of the house during my early elementary school years.

The first 45 . . .

Oh, my, this goes WAY back; brace yourself.

The first 45s I ever had (not the first I bought) was "Island Girl" by Elton John and "Bad Blood" by Neil Sedaka . . . Christmas gifts that came with a cheapie portable turntable, from Sears mind you, from parents. Go figure. The first 45 I ever bought myself was "Boogie Fever" by the Sylvers; later I bought their album because it also had "High School Dance" on it. The 45 buying blitz went on from there, in competition with my best friend, for the next 14 years. I've amassed quite a collection; the last 45 I bought was Prince's "Batdance" in 1989. Don't get me started on the albums.
