csberry: (May not get to death)

Although I answered Carly Simon's "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" to a similar question a few months ago. The song for today is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. The song hits me with such instant depression and sadness that I've never actually listened to the whole song without mentally or physically distracting myself at some point because I just can't take it. Ween's "Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down)" is depressing and sad in the same way that a snuff movie is depressing and sad. The lyrics are written from the point of view of a young child suffering from spinal meningitis.

I include the audio and lyrics below...but please don't listen to the song or read the lyrics if anything involving the suffering of a child bothers you. Going further is up to you.

Why they wanna see my spine Mommy?
Why they wanna see my spine?
It's gonna hurt again, Mommy
Much worse than last time
Am I gonna see God, Mommy?
Am I gonna die?
It really hurts, Mommy!
Am I gonna die?
Smile on mighty Jesus
Spinal meningitis got me down

I'm feelin' greasy, Mommy
Please don't let me die
Stinky Vaseline, Mommy!
Please don't let me die
Am I gonna see God, Mommy?
Am I gonna die?
It really hurts, Mommy!
Am I gonna die?
Smile on mighty Jesus
Spinal meningitis got me down

Songs That Make You Sad . . .

Meh, this Ween song's a bit of glurge, so I can't really call it sad. Any song can make you sad and depressed, if heard correctly.

The only song I can think of that makes me truly depressed is Natalie Imbruglia's "Torn". I just can't listen to it. Mind you, this is something completely different from a song I can't stand (different thread, I know), but for many of you, it may be one and the same.
