There is a wood roach in my bedroom. He first made his presence known about a half hour ago as he climbed the wall behind the entertainment center. I had a magazine rolled in my hand. JD fetched the vacuum to suck him up. I should have swatted, but I tried to suck him up instead. Bad choice!

He immediately fell on top of or behind the entertainment center. Despite our efforts to located, the roach avoided detection. About 10 minutes later I saw him atop a binder on the entertainment center. This time, I swatted. Alas, it was certainly not a fatal blow. He's attempting to be as elusive as Osaka bin Laden.

Now I'm supposed to go to sleep in this room? Every twitch and itch of my body, at first, seems roach-induced.

What in the world is a wood roach? Is that the same size as a palmetto bug, also known as Flying Death From Above?

Wood roaches are about the size of a palmetto bug. However, they don't usually fly. I think when I first read up on them a few years ago, I did see that supposedly one of the sexes will fly during mating season in April or May, but I've only seem them crawling around.

Scheisse, one of them landed on me in my sleep last night. I felt the shape and size as I swatted it away. Regular ol' Texas cockroach.

Yeah, try sleeping after that.
