CCM Suggestions?

I am exploring the world of Contemporary Christian Music and would appreciate any suggestions folks might have. My knowledge of this genre boils down to Sandi Patti, Amy Grant, Stryper, and Jars of Clay. I've been listening to WAY-FM some in the car. I like a good bit of what I hear, but I haven't had anything really jump out at me. I'm not someone that pays attention to lyrics, so WAY-FM just sounds like a hip-hopless version of the Top40 music I hear.

Dare I hope to find a band that uses the rhythmic stylings of Talking Heads? Know of any good "alternative" CCM podcasts?

I dunno about podcasts...but we happen to like the following bands that aren't particularly Jesus' Soft Rock Greatest Hits:

Flatfoot 56
Anberlin
FM Static
Joy Electric
Newworldson

Thanks for the suggestions. I was browsing through emusic yesterday and I do recall seeing they had Joy Electric, so I will certainly listen to samples of their stuff as well as look up the other artists.

I salute you, sir. I can't do Contemporary Christian. Most of it is so treacly-sweet and unimaginative that it makes me grit my teeth, and long to sing "Dear God" at the top of my lungs.

"Most of it is so treacly-sweet and unimaginative that it makes me grit my teeth"

That was very much my opinion last century. I really liked Jars of Clay's If I Left the Zoo when it came out (especially "Goodbye, Good Night" which would be at home at an Adult Alternative station just as well as a CCM station).

I've popped by WAY-FM for a song or two once a week or so for several years now. My thoughts usually went along the lines of "Oh, that doesn't sound bad...yeah, not bad...ok, I listened to that song and now I'm ready for something different." Lately, I'll keep it on the station for 15 minutes or so. It is rare that I think poorly of the music, it's just that I rarely think that a song is particularly creative in a way that catches my attention.

Wow! Thanks for the suggestion. I was able to find a lot of his music on emusic and sampled about 8 songs. His Nick Cave/Tom Waits sound is very moving. I'm definitely going to download some Woven Hand songs, just gotta figure out what to start with.
