I am ears deep into The Gossip and their latest album, Music for Men. What can I say, I love rock music you can dance to (blame my American Bandstand upbringing). I first saw the video for "Heavy Cross" on MTV2's Subterranean sometime near the beginning of the year. There are bits of disco diva, Evanesence, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and 101-era Depeche Mode that I hear when I listen to the album. What has intensified my love for the band are the live clips I've seen on YouTube and heard from NPR. They have a roughness and passion live that is glossed over on the studio album.
Now, looking beyond the music, you are confronted by singer Beth Ditto.

This very boisterous, curvaceous presence bounds around the stage and even sports a Jaggeresque strut while pacing the stage. I think the difference she has in her energy with an audience is amazing and I hope she can find a loose producer like Steve Albini that can capture the feeling from a live performance.
