I've been doing a bunch of political reading lately. For the most part it has been "3rd party" investigating and loitering. I'm libertarian and not Libertarian. Sorry, I've just been rather uncomfortable around most of the party members I've ever met. The years of doing political talk radio put me in constant contact w/ tons of folks in every nook and cranny of the political spectrum (though a majority were Rush conservatives, I heard from all types while call screening thru the years). Everyone I met who talked about being the party were...well, a bit creepy - VERY NICE - but a bit creepy. Harry Browne is a nice guy, but I've met him on several occasions and always found him to seem really desperate or meek. He is a very nice guy...I'm just saying that I clicked into Amateur Psychologist Mode when I saw him.

I was pondering an interesting political strategy. Run as Joe Average. An independent guy that is sick of hearing about screw ups being done by the govt. He just wants to run as a 3rd choice.
"No one should be forced to vote for someone they don't want! But don't just sit out of voting because that just means that the political insiders and weirdos win office. Everyone should vote. And if you don't want to vote FOR either of the two parties, vote for me. I won't screw things up. I just want to make certain that the govt doesn't throw our money away, that we can feel safe in our neighborhoods, and try to get along with each other as best we can. I'm a competent manager that has been keeping up with the news and issues. Whatever you do on election day, vote. But if you need me, I'll be your scapegoat."
I've met several people that are somewhat like the character above. None of them were prepared for actually running competitively and many could have pulled in more votes than they did. A few of them actually got elected. Reps. Michael Burgess (R-TX) and Van Hillary (R-TN) were a doc and a lawyer that kinda ran for the hell of it. They both were strongly politically conscience but not previously in public office before their Congressional runs. But they both had the GOP to get help in achieving their goal. To take someone of similar ilk via an independent party would be nice. Ventura doesn't count...celebrities are popular aberrations that must be discounted when talking about humanity (a rule everyone should live by in reaction to anything celebrities do).
