I've hit a second wind tonight that I fear may last a while. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I acquired an Obama sign for my front yard today. I decided to do this after feeling I had reached the point that McCain/Palin had no chance in wooing me (I overcame Bob Barr's sexy mustache long ago) AND after seeing that a yard just a few houses away from mine has had an Obama and another Dem sign or two up for several weeks/a month.

I looked out in the yard as I turned off our front porch tonight around 10pm and didn't see the sign. I didn't think too much of it because I had placed it so you were looking at its side when looking out the front door. Around midnight, I decided to take another look out front through the windows. I still couldn't see the sign. I sighed in resignation that I must satisfy my curiosity. Sure enough, the plastic sign had been ripped off the metal wire frame. I couldn't find any of the sign anywhere. I pulled up the naked upside-down metal U from the ground and placed it atop the yard debris waiting for trash pickup tomorrow.

In an act that may be completely stupid, I decided to thumb my nose at the vandal(s). I walked to my porch, grabbed the second sign they gave me at the Dem HQ, and posted it in my yard. Just a little closer to the house...not right next to the sidewalk, now. If that damned thing gets ripped up again, I'm going to the Dem HQ, giving a donation, and asking for another pair of signs.

You're making me value my happy little bubble.

I was afraid that might happen. Glad you had a backup sign, though.

For all that I make fun of being somewhat from the South (KY is a border state), by and large, I love the area. But the racism and close-minded attitudes I could do without.

i had to leave the area. being asked about what church i went to or what political 'side' i voted for in job interviews just got old. talking to professionals and college educated people and hearing how iraq planned and carried out the sept 11th attacks, or how gays want equal rights so they can steal out children the same way blacks stole our women just made it impossible for me to live there.

when the south wonders why they cant attract young educated people, all i can do is hope that the economic crash forces people to examine their lives and see that while its ok to be an ignorant bigot, perhaps that bad behavior is the reason people pass the south over. maybe then they will learn, but if they havent yet, its hard to see what will get through to them.

I'm in a very liberal section of a very red state, so while those types of interview questions aren't unknown to me, it's far more common for them to happen after the hiring process.

But it's another reason why I stopped having any kind of sticker or statement on my car.

i have seen youtubes of people that put cameras out to watch the sign thieves, in most cases people with mccain/palin crap all over their vehicles. freedom to choose unless you choose the 'wrong' side, then you have stuff stolen out of your yard for America!

the sign stealing reminds me of book burning. as if the sign not being there will stop people from making the same decision.
