RIP: George Carlin

Wow.

I just sat down, checked email, and as soon as I check the news...there's the news about George Carlin's death.

Discovering George Carlin in high school was a great moment. Here was a guy that could discuss grammar, philosophy, and fake dog poop all in the same joke. "Class Clown" is such a delight of a recording, even if you decide to skip the "7 Dirty Words" routine. In college, I wrote, at least, two papers on his dirty words - once in English examining the history of the words and second in Telecommunications class when discussing the Supreme Court case.

Maybe I'll more to share later, now I'm just kinda shell-shocked...LOL...Oh, shit...of course, writing "shell shocked" reminded me of one of his routines when he discussed how "shell shocked" became "post traumatic stress disorder." The more syllables you give a term, the less it hurts.

Yeah, I agree. Sad, just sad...

One of the markers of my childhood/young adulthood is gone. Discovering Richard Pryor and George Carlin - and the keen, insightful intelligence behind the cursing was something that had a profound effect on me.

Rest in peace, sir.

My intial reaction was "Holy F***!"

and I posted after I found out too.

Speaking of "Holy F***," there is a band with that name out that has some really interesting music. Sort of a punk, progressive instrumental thing going on...

Holy F*** - "Lovely Allen"

Give it 20 or seconds before the video actually starts. Lazy label not trimming the ends.

All day today on XM150, they've played nothing but George Carlin bits. I was able to record on my XM player "Wonderful WINO" and another bit called "Things We All Share". Pretty damn funny. :)>
