Basic Video Editor?

Okay, I finally tried out the camcorder function on my digital camera today. I was very pleased with the results, but it would be nice to be able slice and dice this stuff. I do have a program that Canon included in its software bundle, but am open to whatever is 1) free and 2) user friendly for beginners. I will, no doubt, get to a point where I'll be doing all sorts of audio and video mixing, but don't feel a need to jump into the deep end immediately.

Any suggestions?

Windows movie maker. Typically packaged with Win XP. Quick, Easy and gets the job done.
