Corlis S. Berry Jr. 1928-2003

My grandfather died yesterday morning. He had been in failing health for quite some time now, so it wasn't a surprise. I didn't know him well. He did a good job of keeping everyone in the family at arms length away from him. One couldn't just drop by and see him. It was always a hassle to get together, especially given his adamant demands that we meet him out at restaurants and we weren't to go to his house. How this man meshed with his ex-wife -- the ever vibrant and flamboyant "cool grandmother" -- I will spend years trying to figure out. As my mom mentioned to me this morning, Corlis would disown everyone in the family at least once a year. That he went to the grave demanding to be buried next to his mother instead of his dad because they were on bad terms when he died 15 years ago is yet another indication of his mind set and personality.

This isn't a "good riddance" in any way. He just was easy to butt heads with.
