2 Days, 4 hours, 54 minutes, and 34 seconds until the Daytona 500!!!

If it wasn't for the holiday trifecta of T-giving, Xmas, and New Years...I don't know how I'd make it through the off season!

What do you think about all the cheating scandals? Those are almost getting as much media coverage as the war for Anna Nicole's body.

I only see one "scandal" at Daytona: the unknown jet fuel ingredient they found in the intake manifold during inspection last weekend (yup, it's several days old before it's a top story for some reason).

As many who follow the sport will tell you, the racing teams are always bending rules or trying out techniques that may be questionable when creating the fastest car possible within the restrictions of the league. The news this week isn't comparable to the baseball-steroid scandal. For those involved with the sport, the news is more about WHO was busted than about the violation.

Michael Waltrip is a nice, good humored, and loving sports figure more like Jimmy Stewart than Jackie Stewart. This year, he is striking out and owning his own team (a big jump for him). On top of that, Toyota is making their debut in the Nextel Cup this year and Mikey's three-car team is kind of the "flagship team" for the manufacturer.

Add Nice guy
+ Career Risk (new team)
+ New Manufacturer
+ NASCAR's increasing penalties for violations as its popularity grows
x violation and penalty
Mainstream Media Attention

The other penalties from qualifying last weekend are run-of-the-mill violations that are somewhat routine.

As for Jeff Gordon's infraction from yesterday; although I really wish that guy ill, his car running short with the part that failed is purely accidental. It's an accident but you still have to throw the flag.

That new Toyota car looks pretty sharp.

Do you think that Waltrip knew about the "jet fuel"?

Michael's record is pretty clean. It's hard to imagine him knowing about the additive.
