Rolling Stone List Revised!!!
May. 31st, 2012 07:25 pmI found out this afternoon that Rolling Stone has revised their Top 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. My next album to review at #283 (Nick Drake's Five Leaves Left) is no longer on the list. I was then to review The Cars' self-titled album at #282. Well, The Cars is now at #284. It seems there are 30 albums that were replaced on the list and lots of little shifts of positioning.
I've decided to continue my march through the list...the new list...at the same number I'm at. I plan on just mentioning if I've reviewed an album before (there are a couple of Eminem albums that I've reviewed that jumped just ahead of my current position on the list). When I finish the list, I MAY go back and hit the albums that were added in the lower half of the list or those albums that dropped to below #284. Let's just get through these next 283 albums first!!!
This album sounds very much like Pink Moon except there are other instruments along side Nick and his guitar. For the most part, the additional instrumentation isn't noticeable and other times it adds just the right tone to the song.
Songs I knew I liked: None
Songs I didn't know but now like: "Time Has Told Me," "Day is Done," "'Cello Song," and "Man in a Shed"
Songs I can go the rest of my life without hearing again: "The Thoughts of Mary Jane" isn't bad as much as just saturated in hippie sweetness. OMG, the flute on this song just kills me each time the track starts and I hear those birdsong-like notes.
