Saints' Sean Payton unhappy with NFL overtime rules change - Peter King - SI.comYes, I agree that Goddell was a sneaky bastard by doing the vote while y'all were golfing. But it's not like the coaches ever had a vote. Only the owners do and they liked the change.
Tell you what...I like the change too. Coach Payton, if it will take your wife half an hour to understand the change, never EVER try to explain the far more complex OT rules for college football. Sheesh! The stats speak for themselves. With the move of the kickoff spot back to the 30 yard line and the increased distance and accuracy of kickers, OT was being decided around 2/3 of the time by the coin toss. That sucks and shouldn't be why folks win.
I do agree with another coach that restricting it to the playoffs is silly since the game or two before playoff season is just as important to many teams. But rather than using that as an excuse to kill the reform, it emphasizes why the OT change should be enacted for the whole season.
