June Bugs!

Friday morning, my lawn became abuzz. A couple of days before, I found an empty, brown shell and knew that the grubs had enough time in the soil and were emerging. What I didn't anticipate was that I would now have a few dozen new front yard neighbors. There is a mini-plague in my front yard. N'bors across the street don't have any June bugs. Next-door n'bors seem to have a few, but a couple of houses down (on both sides) seem to be June bug free.

This is what I get for being as organic as possible, using a mulching mower, and keeping my grass on the tall side (all of this in an effort to promote growth of my bermuda while squeezing out the weeds). These tactics have thinned out the weeds (with only a few applications of Weed B Gone) but have also provided a great habitat for grubs to grow fat and happy. I don't remember having a June bug problem last year, though. Anyways, it is safe to say that I will be purchasing some grub killer in a month or two. I can tolerate bugs...until they fly at me. Given the lack of grace in flight of the June bug, I'm completely creeped out each time I walk into our yard. I wish I had a tennis racket so I could chase those buggers and smack the ever-loving crap out of them

*shudders*
