Berry Pandemic
Nov. 1st, 2005 12:42 pmLast Friday, Calvin had the sniffles. On Saturday, the rest of us had drainage to various degrees. I seem to be the one best dealing with the illness. JD and I spent the weekend taking turns dealing with poor Nigel (it's horrible when babies have to choose between breathing and eating/drinking).
Possibly related to the illness (or the medication used for illness) is that Calvin woke up Sunday night around midnight...completely awake. He refused to even think about going back to sleep until sometime in the 3am hour. Last night, Nigel decided to be up until 1am or so after a very brief evening nap. I haven't gone to bed before 2am the past couple of nights. For falling back on Sat nite, my body seems convinced that the clock actually sprang forward a couple of hours.
Calvin began to recover yesterday. Since I was the more mobile of the parental unit, I was in charge of breaking Calvin in to the trick or treat ritual for the first time. My eldest is a bit shy and not a fan of trying new things. We drove to the g-parents to hit them up for candy and let them get pics of Calvin in his doctor costume. However, upon pulling up to the in-law's house, he refused to get out of the car. We then drove to Parkway City Mall (just can't accept the "Parkway Place" name change) and went trick or treating at the stores there. Calvin started to open up during the time there. You could actually hear him say "Trick or Treat" by the time we hit the last of the stores. I bumped into
bluevinylangel's brother while we were there.
After a quick trip by Publix for trick or treating, we went home and sat on the porch to hand out candy. Calvin got a kick out of seeing the kids come by in costume and gathered enough courage to walk across the street to one n'bor's house before The Fear kicked back in.
Last year we were short on candy. This year we increased our supply...but had 1/4 or less the amount of kids come by this year. I now have a HUGE bowl of candy and no place for me to disperse it to in order to get it out of the house and away from my belly.
Any H'ville people want to come to my house this week for belated trick or treating? I'll guarantee you a quart sized bag of candy (M&Ms, Skittles, Kit Kat, Laffy Taffy)!
