Monday:
Spent cramming everything I had to get accomplished for much of the week in one day. Why? Because after I put Calvin to sleep, I was headed down to B'ham for two days of networking and sitting in butt-numbing presentations at a small biz procurement conference (doesn't that sound thrilling to you?). I got out of the house just before 9pm and got to my brother's apartment around 10:30pm. He (Shortlegs) pulled out sheets for the couch and I passed out shortly thereafter.

**Tangential Story**
I get to my bro's place and we start chatting. He stops and says, "Oh, I need to thank you for helping with first impressions with my neighbors." One of the guys from down the hall dropped by the previous week and offered to help him construct some furniture. While doing this, the n'bor notices a collection of MST3k video tape dubs that I had given Shortlegs. They decide to watch one of them when they're done. Looking through the collection, Future War was selected. The tape was inserted in the VCR and credits pop up...for a Vivid Video porno. It seems that JD or I had decided to record a rental and then forgot to relabel the tape a few years ago. Unbeknownst to me, when I noticed I had two copies of Future War, I grabbed one of them to give to my brother. Depending on your opinion, I gave him the wrong/right one (I think I'd rather have Mike and the cheesy dinosaurs of Future War).
**End of Tangent**

Tuesday:
Got up at 7am, showered, and put on tie, jacket, dress shoes, et al. The first couple of hours of the day was very worthwhile. Numerous govt agencies, corporations, and prime contractors had booths set up. I got some good face time to give my elevator speech about the business and find out what the likelihood of getting money from them would be. At 10:30am, I had two hours until the afternoon sessions began. I had told Shortlegs that I would meet him at his office in Five Points South at 11 or 11:30am for lunch, so I decided to walk the 12-14 blocks from Hill University Center to his office to help kill the time (uphill in dress shoes...fun!). Had lunch at a pretty good Mexican place and walked back. Did my best to stay awake during the afternoon sessions. Went out to a great Mediterranean place in Homewood for dinner (Nabeel's on Oxmoor Road next to the recently renovated Grove Park) and had a dish of moussaka. YUM!

Wednesday:
Sessions started earlier in the morning on the second day. I awoke with what I hoped was a slight hangover from the red wine the night before but knew was more likely a sinus headache from the approaching front. Took some Tylenol and hoped for the best. When I wasn't struggling with my aching head, I did my best to stay awake during the mostly uninteresting presentations. Thankfully, I was able to skip the afternoon sessions due to poor scheduling of matchmaking sessions by UAB that suited nearly none of the participants attending.
As I drove up I-65, nails could be felt being driven into my eye sockets. When I got home, JD was tired after a day of Calvin and Nigel being high maintenance, but she was sweet enough to give me sinus meds and a couple of hours to let it kick in...before abandoning me with the boys for an hour. :)

Thursday:
Several appointments that were made on Monday sent me driving around H'ville to meet up with folks. Productive day until I got home and saw the wreck of a house but couldn't do anything to clean up since the boys were on another day of high maintenance. Thankfully, this evening I've been able to get some chores done (yea! I have underwear for tomorrow in the dryer!).

Friday:
More meetings and trying to finish writing the content for the About Us section of ERC's website for the overhaul. Also have to finish the troop newsletter for the Eagle Court of Honor next week. Got to get the file to the printer on Monday to guarantee I can get it on Wednesday (hey, for gratis, I don't get first come, first served privileges).

Saturday:
Take Nigel to my parents during JD's childbirth class. My parents' subdivision is having an egg hunt and I hope to get some good shots of Calvin looking for eggs. When I get home, I'll have to clear out the three boxes of computer parts I've collected. I know I'm going to have some extra PC switchers and power supplies. Gotta figure out which are worth keeping. Hoping to condense to only one box, but think two boxes are more likely since I technically have 3 1/2 boxes worth of materials.

Sunday:
Spend the morning napalming the clover and other weeds in the yard. We'll head back over to my parent's house at 1pm for some Dreamland ribs and to watch the Las Vegas race (Come on, Mark! You won the first Cup race at the track, so win your last race there too!).

Oh, and Sunday is JD's and my Sixth Wedding Anniversary. Since we are pretty broke right now, I'm only planning on sentimental presents and nothing fancy. Wish Nigel was a little less attached to her boob so we could manage a dinner and a movie...but, alas, not quite to that point yet. How I wish there were "Cry Baby Matinees" here in H'ville. Those were such a Godsend in Dallas after Calvin was born.

I watched some Family Feud as I was getting ready to leave Shortlegs' apartment on Wednesday. No, I'm not going to bitch about the banal contestants. It's those 100 people that they poll for the fuckin list.

Question: Which state would you not want to live in because of the severe natural disasters?

There were four items up on the board. California and Florida were easily picked out as numbers 1 and 2. Contestants offered: Missouri, Kansas, South Carolina, and Texas. Nope. After one of the families won, the final two were displayed. Eight of the hundred said New York and two said Alaska.

NEW YORK?!? WTF! I know WTC, but the question was "natural disasters" dumbasses!

Maybe I wouldn't have been so disturbed by it if I hadn't already seen the moronic "What do gorillas do all day?" which elicited such answers as: "scratch themselves" and "jump around"...that were more popular than the slightly more intelligent answers of "grooming" and "beating their chests."

Ugh...I should just let it go.

Something I frequently tell people - "Think about how stupid the 'average' person is. Now realize that half of the population is dumber than that."

Despite only getting 3 hours of sleep last night (stress kept me up until 3am and Calvin arose at 6:20am). I'm feeling much better than I was during my last couple of posts. They key was calling the bank to check the balance of the checking acct and discovering that the state and Uncle Sam blessed me with my refunds overnight (thanks again to the wee members of my family for their contribution).

Another indication of my improved mood (or loosening grip on sanity) happened on the way home from work this evening. I love listening to "Great Classics" Q107 out of Florence, Alabama. My favorite stations are ones that surprise me with the songs they play. Sam Phillips (the Father of Rock n Roll) gets more credit from me for starting this station than all that Elvis, Johnny Cash, Sun Records stuff. Okay, that was just a bit of hyperbole. But anyways...I'm coming home today and turn on Q107 when I hear:
Why can't you do it?
Why can't you set your monkey free?
Always giving into it -
Do you love your monkey or do you love me?
Why can't you do it
Why do I have to share my baby with a monkey?

I hated that song when George Michael sang it 15-18 years ago. But coming home, I sang every line and even danced while driving down the Parkway. I was probably quite a scary sight to behold.
