John Peel of BBC radio fame, has died from a heart attack while vacationing in South America. This man helped create my image of the ideal DJ. He promoted music that was outside of the mainstream. He discovered numerous bands, provided a showcase for punk, reggae/dub, and other genres that tend to be outside of "radio hits." What America needs now is an Army of John Peels to take over our airwaves and push the Ashlee Simpsons back into lip-synch performances at strip malls.

I realized while we were putting Calvin down to sleep tonight that my Scout troop is having their Halloween party tomorrow night. When we were done w/ Calvin, I dug to the back of the closet for my wedding dress. Sadly, it's about 3 inches too small to wrap around my torso any more (what an unusual weight-gain indication for a man). So, I will not be a bride tomorrow night.

Me in my wedding dress in the "good ole days." (I played the part of a living mannequin one morning during the show...no reason why, really.)

Alas I haven't kept the Poison Ivy costume from a Halloween stunt in 1999...

Halloween morning I was sent out to WalMart to buy whatever costume was left that I could into which I could fit. The only adult sized item was this medium Poison Ivy outfit. (Whatever happened to the classic costumes that were basically black bags w/ designs painted on them?) I then got to stand on the side of Murfreesboro Road by Nashville's airport and have people either throw their candy at me while driving by...or the nice folks would pull over to give me candy.

Right now things are looking like I'll pull out my coveralls, smear some muck on my face, and go to Scouts as a mechanic. So much for maintaining the drag precedent I set w/ the troop as a teenager (yet another occasion my senior year that I dressed up as a Robert Palmer girl).
