Death of an Ideal DJ
Oct. 26th, 2004 09:56 amJohn Peel of BBC radio fame, has died from a heart attack while vacationing in South America. This man helped create my image of the ideal DJ. He promoted music that was outside of the mainstream. He discovered numerous bands, provided a showcase for punk, reggae/dub, and other genres that tend to be outside of "radio hits." What America needs now is an Army of John Peels to take over our airwaves and push the Ashlee Simpsons back into lip-synch performances at strip malls.
