Aug. 28th, 2003 12:29 amWent back to my old Scout troop tonight...
Yes, I know that some of you will disapprove, but I really enjoyed being back. For me, the whole God and gay thing is something that I've been able to get over. I like everything else about the organization and I've got to throw personal nostalgia of a truly happy period of my life. The ability to alter the organization's policy towards homosexuality is one that will change. It may not be universally appreciated all over the country, but most of society will learn to just get over it. I've always found the level of "Jesus" in Scouting was actually really low. I've always liked to take a very liberal view of "God," so I rarely got uncomfortable. The camping and challenging myself in Scouts was great when I wasn't getting much out of the quality public schools of Alabama.
Anyways, I had a good time seeing some of the same old adult leadership and helping out with the activities. I would like to make it a habit of going back. Tonight's good grade just solidifies that desire.
Received an email from someone that was passed onto me from a friend in town. She's in PR and gave me 5 different job leads. That was a great email to read. I'm starting to get eager to get a job so I can get settled into a place of our own. I don't want to get "settled" in the in-law's house at all. I would really get dragged down from the lack of productivity. I'm hoping to make it a while longer before broadening the scope of employment. I'm so glad that I've got the "emergency fund" still rolling at a slow, steady pace. Gotta thank Bush for that $400 check the other week (uh, oh. I lost all liberal readers now...oh, great...GUYS!? DON'T LEAVE ME WITH ONLY REPUBLICANS READING!)
Um
Ummm
OH!
One of the Scouts (who is a definite candidate for corruption already...growing his hair out, scraggly looking, carrying an electric guitar, just got his drivers license) admired the worn out blue Chuck Taylors I was wearing. We talked Chucks for a few minutes.
Whew...did that redeem me in any way? No?
Well...I've really got to get more coats of polish on my toes. JD gave me a pedicure a couple of weeks ago now, but thanks to the complications of parenthood, I'm a couple of layers from completion. It's not really a noticeable problem, but it's something that starting to nag on me.
I hope that I can put the first part of the post behind us now...
