I'm home from my day trip up to Nashville. JD dropped me off at Phonoluxe a little after 10am. My budget for the shopping spree was $100. I had some albums/artists that I was aiming for, but I essentially looked at nearly every CD in the pop/rock section (okay, I scanned the artist tabs and flipped through the individual CDs in the bulk area for each letter) and scanned the jazz, compilation, and spoken word sections. I emerged nearly 3 hours later with the following:

The CDs...
1. Edie Brickell & New Bohemians - Stranger Things ($8)
- This is their new album. I heard the single on some streaming station within the past week and put the album on my list. JD and I are listening to this now and she has thanked me for buying this (and she isn't really a fan of their earlier stuff). There's a nice maturity to Edie's voice and lyrics compare to the naive singer that gave us "What I Am."

2. Evanescence - The Open Door ($8) - I thought their singles from the debut were okay. I have developed a severe crush on Amy with the release of "Call Me When You're Sober." EW compared Amy to Tori doing metal in their review. As someone who has heard and enjoyed Y Kant Tori Read, I put the album on my list for me to listen to at the store. I heard most of 5 songs and was surprised with how much I liked it. I'm considering this album a bit of a guilty pleasure, though.

3. Jellyfish - Spilt Milk ($10) - I own this on cassette (autographed by Eric Dover) but needed to secure a CD copy. I LOVE JELLYFISH! One day I'll finally win an auction on eBay and will own their box set, Fan Club (usually around $250-300).

4. zero 7 - selections from The Garden ($3) - Nearly every zero 7 song I've heard, I really enjoyed. I was going to buy anything Phonoluxe had by them (budget allowing, of course). Unfortunately, this four song sampler was the only item they had. *sigh*

5. Kate Bush - The Sensual World ($8) - I originally owned this CD after it came out. I sold it in college because, like pretty much every album of hers I've heard, it gets kinda slow and sluggish. However, there are 3 or 4 tracks on here that I miss. Worst case scenario, I rip these songs off and sell the CD again.

6. The Finn Brothers - Everyone is Here ($8) - Crowded House's Woodface has been occupying my mp3 and CD players for the past couple of months. I noted a need to listen to other Finn Brother collaborations since my favs from Woodface were the songs they wrote for the aborted Finn Brothers album 15ish years ago. This one caught my ears' attention while listening to CDs at the counter.

7. Miles Davis - Kind of Blue ($9) - the only jazz CD I selected that made it to the sales counter. The others would be experiments and explorations. This is a classic that I need to own.

The DVDs...
8. ani difranco - render: spanning time with... ($8)
- ani live is pure bliss. I've seen her...5...maybe 6 times. Having a DVD of her live is sweet. I also get bonus points with My Beloved for buying this.

9. The Police - Every Breath You Take ($8) - This collection of their videos (and a few live clips from OGWT and a concert) was a given considering the price.

10. Tori Amos - Welcome to Sunny Florida ($10) - Live music from her Scarlet's Walk tour a few years ago.

11. Tori Amos - Video Collection ($12) - I already own a video collection of hers on VHS which covers '91-'98. This DVD has 21 videos and "comprehensive audio commentary by Tori Amos."

Grand Total (plus tax) = $100.51

The one CD I almost bought but just couldn't justify was the original, import Virgin release of XTC's Skylarking with "Mermaid Smiled" instead of "Dear God." Phonoluxe has had it for years and actually cut the price down to $20. I have the songs; the purchase would purely be for bragging rights/completism of my XTC collection.

Now I need to take the time to catalog the CDs and DVDs in my music inventory and add the CDs to the second jukebox.

Don't feel guilty on my account, Cory. But yes, I know how motivating a factor guilt is. I was once a Catholic girl, after all.

But I appreciate you thinking of me. :D
