I got the email a few days ago from their website. The fact that the site was down that day after the email didn't surprise me at all. Now I have to put seeing them in concert at the top of my priority list. The few bits of concert footage I've seen are superb. It looks like I have my choice of three concerts in late Sept, though!

I think this will actually be the first time for me to go to Big Spring Jam.

If you are unfamiliar with the version of bluegrass that Nickel Creek plays, for a limited time, here are three of their songs for you to sample:

Reasons Why This file is about 2 MB. I can't remember where I first heard this song (probably Lightning 100 in Nashville), but it was love at first listen. It also spurred some shameful (aka "not legal age") lusting after Sara.

The Lighthouse's Tale This file is around 5 MB. Fatal love story as told by a lighthouse.

I Should've Known Better This is also around 5MB. I love this song because it is one of the better examples of how they venture off the bluegrass path into intriguing musical territory.

The email and website have the same statement about them deciding to take an "indefinite" leave from collaborating as a band. You can read the statement at www.nickelcreek.com but it doesn't really answer questions.

I've wondered for years if there was a thing (unrequited or not) between Sara and Chris. Each concert performance I've seen has some point where the two of them riff off each other while standing very close to each other or in another flirtatious manner.

However, given their age and the amount of solo albums by Chris and Sean; I think it is most likely that they want some creative room to grow and find themselves individually.

My family and I are really big fans of Nickel Creek. We've seen them three times in concert. They're awesome, very down to earth and funny. They did this great version of "Toxic" originally done by Britney Spears!! I was thrilled, because I love that song. I like the songs you mentioned, too. Do you have "Why Should the Fire Die"? My favorite on that one is "Best of Luck" (number 10). I plan to go see them in concert this year, too. My dad will, no doubt, get us tickets. It's a sad thing they're splitting up. At least they gave us some notice.
