Apr. 6th, 2006 09:08 pmThank you Mr. Speaker,
I come before this body to personally express, again, my sincere regret about the
encounter with the Capitol Hill Police. I appreciate my colleagues who are standing with
me, who love this institution and who love this country. There should not have been any
physical contact in this incident. I have always supported law enforcement, and will be
voting for H. Res. 756 expressing my gratitude and appreciation to the professionalism
and dedication of the men and women of the U.S. Capitol Police. I am sorry that this
misunderstanding happened at all and I regret its escalation. And I apologize.
Okay, let's take this bit by bit...
1. She expresses her sincere regret about the encounter. - What about the encounter does she regret?
2. She appreciates what support she's received, Congress, and America. - Nice statement, but no apology there.
3. There shouldn't have been physical contact... - Does she mean the guard grabbing her or her punching him? No apology here!
4. She kisses cop butt.
5. Sorry about misunderstanding and regrets its escalation. - The closest thing to an apology in the statement essentially just says that she's sorry to have had it happen and that it escalated. I truly doubt that she regrets everything she's said since the incident to cause it to escalate. I hope and pray that Tim Russert gets a chance to dissect this woman Sunday morning. But since Soledad O'Brien on CNN was able to manhandle her in the interview yesterday morning, I can't see McKinney put herself in front of a bona fide journalist on this.
