Parental Torture

Tonight is my night of the week to be grateful that I'm not a single parent to my two boys. JD now has a class she's teaching in Madison on Thursday nights. This results in me doing the entire evening routine solo.

Lemme paint the picture...
Calvin has the biggest heels on the planet. I have been a procrastinator and I think he is my comeuppance. Wanna get Calvin to do something? He's going to take his sweet time doing it.

Nigel is the opposite. He wants things done immediately! Add in his lack of vocabulary, the time it takes sometimes to figure out exactly what he wants surpasses the time he feels it should take for you to get it done.

Essentially, I'm typing a sentence between spoons going to Nigel's mouth and my reminding Calvin about going fast.

...Interupted to do rest of evening routine. Continues after boys are asleep...

Ordinarily, these evenings aren't bad. Today, however, both boys were possessed by contradictory devils. The boys changed their moods at a rate that would boggle the most PMSed woman on Earth.

Yeah, doing it alone sucks. :) My heart goes out to you.

Btw, I still strongly recommend using "Baby Signs". Might help with Nigel's frustration, thus reducing your own frustration factor. I honestly think signing was the only reason my boys and I survived the non-verbal phase.

We do signing with Nigel, but he's actually more interested in saying the words than signing them. He's more likely to say "Moooaah" instead of signing "more" or say "cuppppp" instead of the sign. When Nigel gets frustrated, his sign vocabulary is limited to "finished" or vague pointing and his vocal vocab is reduced to "AAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
