Oh, God, It's So Good!

JD and I went by the recently opened European Market off of South Parkway today (Mason Center strip mall by Ethan Allen - go to far end toward L&N). They have a great selection of imported foods - especially Britain, Germany, and Russia. I believe my mom told me that it's owned by a Russian woman. What I was hoping for - AND FOUND - are Curly Wurly bars.

Some of you might remember the Marathon bars from the 70's. Curly Wurly bars are the same thing and are sold via Cadbury in the UK. I stumbled upon them at the British import store a couple of blocks from my first place in Dallas. The thin nature of the "bar" is what makes this candy quite delightful to me.

Next time you go, snag a Violet Crumble if you can. It's crunchy, honey-flavored sugary bliss wrapped in milk chocolate.

Oh, and some Winter Chocolate Pocky - if you can find it - is also heavenly. Crispy cookie and chocolate crack, brought to you by those fine Glicko folks in the land of the rising sun.

I'm trying not to eat the second Curly Wurly bar tonight but fear it is a lost cause. A return trip to the store is likely tomorrow.

For reasons that only make sense if you recall that I haven't really been back to Huntsville in about a decade, the above sentence broke my brain.

NO WAY!!!! I LOVED Marathon bars! I wondered whatever happened to them! They were HUGE! Cool!

Do they have imported music as well?

No music. They focus on food. There is a small display in the back with medications/ointments and a stand with magazines, but everything else is food related (even have a "deli").

Curly wurly bars = $1.49

Sheesh. This is what Amanda and I needed to know about Christmas eve, when we were racing around Hsv trying to find clotted cream to go with our Christmas scones!

Of course, now I'm going to try making scones on my own, so clotted cream will become imperative. Glad I know now. : )
