JD and her mom are off at the hospital. I got to sleep in today rather than go in for the 8am post-shift visit. Sometime this afternoon we should have the results of the blood culture and know if the antibiotics have been treating anything. His bilirubin level had gone down last evening, so they took one of the two spotlights off of him, but they're going to keep him for 24 hours after he's got the lights off to make certain that the levels don't go back up. Yesterday the doctor told us not to get our hopes up for having him home tomorrow, but we are really hoping that Baylor won't keep him all weekend either.

The biggest point of contention/concern is what I will do if Calvin is still in the hospital on Monday. I've taken a week off, but should I take more days off next week? If he were to have surgery or be in some sort of crisis, I can see that, but things have gotten to the point that it's just us visiting for JD to breast feed him 3 or so times a day. When I talked to her about it, she said that she was willing to accept a compromise of my going into the station but she didn't want me to do any work from home when the show was over. Thankfully, next week is gonna be a short week because Darrell isn't going to be on Thursday or Friday (I get to cut up a "Best of..." for the 4th and we'll have a guest host on Friday...which is much like having a substitute teacher in school, you still have to show up but they don't expect you to do too much and you don't want to strain yourself for them. So, if I get permission to go back to work as usual, I've got the shows on Monday and Tuesday with the typical post-show prep work, during the week I'll be cutting and editing bits for the "Best of...", Thursday I'll show up to give the board op the CDs with the show and will only stick around for an hour or so to make certain it's going okay, and on Friday I'll basically just screen calls during the show and do nothing afterwards.

Actually, the order of the ailments were: glucose, temperature, reflux, apnea/infection?, jaundice. After they switched him to lactose free formula and put him on Zantac, he stopped spitting up all of the time. However he kept having apnea spells. They thought it might have been related to reflux, so they kept him on the Zantac. That wasn't working very well, so they did a blood culture and put him on antibiotics on Tuesday. Today the 48 hour cycle of antibiotics were over, so they took his IV out. Meanwhile on the labdish, no bacteria formed from the blood culture, so they don't know if he actually had an infection. The very good news, though, is that he hasn't had an apnea episode since Tuesday 1pm-ish (shortly after he started the treatment of antibiotics - if there actually is a connection between the two). However, he's still under a lamp for jaundice. He's down to 12.4 on that (he was at 17 on his bilirubin Wednesday morning), but after a HUGE poop he had today, it's probably down to a 3. :)
