Album You May Have Never Heard #2

Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend
This album is a rock and roll classic, IMO. The ax-work by Robert Quine and Richard Lloyd is sublime. Many of the songs seem to have been ripped from Brian Wilson's lyric book ("You Don't Love Me" and "I've Been Waiting" especially remind me of Wilson).
The title track inspires every being with a penis to perform air-guitar. We can't help ourselves...it's all Sweet's fault. There may be quite a few people that have heard this song and no other songs by Sweet. That's part of my disappointment. This whole album is as good as that single is.
I remember hearing/reading somewhere that the lyrics from "Evangeline" actually came from a favorite manga of Sweet's. A rock star character had written this song and Sweet put it to music.
"Thought I Knew You" is a song that I would have loved to played on-stage with an acoustic guitar at an open-mic night at some coffeehouse.
Despite the album being bookended by "Divine Intervention" and "Holy War," don't confuse this album as some sort of CCM crossover.
EDIT:
For a limited time, get a listen of "I've Been Waiting" (3.4MB)
