Smile: Further Proof of Brian Wilson's Genius
I caught a documentary a couple of weeks ago about Brian Wilson and his efforts to finish and perform the long-aborted "Smile" album. I thought the music sounded good, but kinda iffy overall. On a whim the other day I wasn't downloading some songs to sample and saw someone w/ the whole CD.
What do you know...the whole thing came though!
This evening, I was sorting thru it all (most of the stuff are songs from artists that I see on AAA playlists, but have never actually heard - thanks for fucking the radio streaming Congress!) and put "Smile" on the player.
Oh God.
I isn't Pet Sounds. It's the pop orchestral brother. Pet Sounds is still pop rock. Smile just barely dabbles in the rock area. This music needs to be heard in concert halls, not arenas or clubs.
It is beautiful. Now I MUST go buy a copy!
