Association Meme: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given. If you want, you can put 5 subjects/things in the comments and I'll put my reply to any/all of those in a post w/ each person's 5 behind a cut so you can look at all, just yours, or skip the post altogether.

The five I received from [livejournal.com profile] wc_helmets:
1. Your kid's interests
I really try to be open to anything that captures the kids' attention. That doesn't mean we buy them stuff for everything. JD loaned Calvin make-up when he wanted to use it when he dressed up as a rock star. After a few times of doing that, we talked him into using some gift money he had received into buying some stage makeup. That worked out well.

2. Cinematic Titanic
I really want to get into CT. I guess my primary problem is that I so rarely watch movies lately. I won't blink at watching Survivor followed by The Office followed by 30 Rock every Thursday night after the boys are asleep. But ask me to plan on setting aside 90 minutes or so for a movie seems like eternity to me. I have shelves of MST3K tapes and DVDs but I've only seen chunks of CT I've procured online. I figured I probably shouldn't buy something that I can't even get myself to watch for free. But I know this phase will end eventually and I'll go on a HUGE CT binge. :)

3. XTC before vs. after Terry Chambers
I've seriously contemplated XTC during and after Barry. I've seriously contemplated XTC before, during, and after XTCETA: UH, I mean Dave Gregory. *handpalm*. But I honestly don't think I've ever evaluated XTC during and after Terry. I think the Terry transition was just muddled in with the switch from touring band to studio band. Before I make generalizations about Terry's party personality and drumming skills I definitely want to better examine the tracks on Mummer he did perform on drums ("Beating of Hearts," "Wonderland," and "Toys").

4. Disc Jockey folly
While people frequently told me in high school and college that I had a voice for radio, I never thought so. What I did acknowledge was that my quirky personality and willingness to do goofy things for attention was perfect for radio. When Darrell came to WTN as the new morning show host, he said he wanted to have someone on staff as the "danger dog" that would go out and do odd things on-air. Since my role during the show when he came was call-screener and errand boy for Thom, the producer, I was put into that role by default.

My first "stunt" of trying to get people to bob for rubber duckies in a kiddie pool in downtown Nashville to poke at the recent judgment that the charity rubber duck race was gambling, is so painful to listen to now. It took a couple more stunts for me to start getting comfy providing the play-by-play and letting myself loose with how goofy I would get.

One of my favorite clips to listen to is when I went to Kroger on the anniversary of Charmin. That was the premise - it was Charmin's birthday. What did I do? I walked up the aisles asking people to squeeze the Charmin I was carrying, interviewed folks about the emotions that are evoked when they think of Charmin, and preached to Darrell about the the importance of the gentle touch of Charmin on your bottom first thing in the morning - like the loving caress of a mother. It was a hilarious, surreal segment that completely hijacked the remainder of the hour because calls were flooding in from listeners that wanted to tell toilet paper/Charmin stories.

5. Lotusflow3r
Like it or not, I'm still a Prince devotee. I think I bought Purple Rain shortly after it came out. I could be wrong; Around the world... may have been the first Prince cassette I purchased. Anyways, after that purchase, I continued to buy every Prince album released. I bought Batman. I bought Graffiti Bridge. "Love Symbol" was the last one I bought right after release. I completely missed the release of the next few albums. Emancipation brought me back into the fold...only for Prince to scare me off again after spending WAY TOO MUCH MONEY on Crystal Ball. Since then, I will buy one of the missed albums if I see it in the bargain bin or will check them out of the library. Each album seems to have a song or two that really grabs me, but I never feel a need to get excited about Prince again.

Every time I hear or read a mention of the three albums scheduled for release this year (starting with Lotusflow3r), it is typically high praise or second-hand telling of praise. I've been to the site three times. Unfortunately, two of the three times were from my Linux laptop and his site obviously doesn't play nice w/ Linux. My lack of time in Winders has kept me from listening to the various tracks that have been posted there.
