I've never had LJArchive not work for me, and have been using it for a couple of years.
Of course, when I created my index, I cut and pasted my posts one by one and put them in files. It's a little quicker than you think once you get the rhythm down. About once a month or so, I update it, which doesn't take long since there are only 20 posts or so to cut and paste. You lose the tags and stuff when you do that, though, but I mainly wanted to be able to search on words.
