csberry1. If you want any sort of adult entertainment, there is a 15 mile road called Harry Hines Blvd. that has it all.
2. Dallas has the nicest drivers I've ever encountered. They use their turn signals, let you in if you need to, and if you let them in...they wave "thanks" to you (I have yet to be denied a wave in the past week). Drivers don't stay in the left lane if you are going faster. Usually only 1 or 2 cars go thru lights that have turned red (hey, for a city this size, this is astonishing). People don't block intersections. I was on a road the other day when I heard a siren behind me. Suddenly, the afternoon jammed traffic separated to the shoulder of the road like Moses had raised his staff. Noone tried to follow the ambulance's wake thru the cleared cars.
3. Say "hi" and people will stop and have a conversation with you 1/3 of the time.
4. No one in Dallas refers to highways and interstates by numbers. I-35E is called Stemmons Freeway from downtown going north, I-30 is called the Dallas-Ft. Worth Turnpike between the two cities and called Thornton Freeway going east out of town.
5. Name a food item...any food item. You can find someplace that offers it fried. I've witnessed these items fried (just in my first week, too): cheesecake, Snickers, fruit, rattlesnake, and whole turkeys.
6. You can't travel 2 blocks w/o seeing a Mexican restaurant. There are many, many places that I've seen 3 and 4 Mexican restaurants and taquerias next door to each other.
7. There are, at least, 6 grocery store chains in Dallas: Albertsons, Tom Thumb, Simon David, Kroger, Carnival, and Minyard are the ones I've seen so far. The problem...you can drive 5 miles and only see one.
