Waiting for her to go
Aug. 31st, 2009 09:25 amI went over to my parents' house this morning to let their dogs out and such. While there, Dad called. Evie hasn't been awake since early yesterday. Her vitals were consistently weakening and the doc didn't expect her to make it through last night. But she did, so they've removed her from the breathing machine. I'm now home trying to mentally prepare myself for today.
JD has a dentist appt at 10:30am for a tooth that has been bothering her. It may be a quickie appt where they schedule action for another day, or she may be there for a while for her tooth to get pulled or something else drastic. She took mercy on me and gave the news about Evie to the kids. They seemed to take the news okay, although Calvin did turn stiff and was ready for her to be done as soon as possible.
I think the only thing that really has me "worried" is the funeral arrangements. JD's grandfather died a couple of months ago and his memorial (he was cremated) is this Saturday from 4-6pm in B'ham. The last I heard, the plan for Evie was to have a visitation/memorial in Florence and then drive down to B'ham for the funeral (technically in Adamsville, about 5 miles directly west -as the crow flies- to the converted shotgun house she lived in for 45 years in Republic). If the service for Evie isn't until Saturday, it will most likely result in JD and I spending the day apart...but with both g'parents at memorials, I don't know how JD and I would split up the kids between us. I'm hoping that Evie's service will be during the week, but if it falls on Saturday, it may still be possible (yet terribly exhausting) for us to all do Florence in the morning, Adamsville shortly after lunch, and then JD goes to Buck's memorial while I care for the kids at a hotel in B'ham.
