About a week ago, I noticed a new hole-in-the-wall Mexican place on S Parkway just south of the Weatherly Road Ramp in what, I think, used to be a BBQ joint and a Subway (in the little 6-store stripmall between Express Oil Change and the large Antiques store). It is a horrendous location, but if you want authentic Mexican on the south side of town, this is where you go.

It is owned and operated by Latinos. The parking lot was filled with pickup trucks and the patrons were half soldiers in BDUs and half Latino laborers. The menu has bonafide tacos, menudo, and a selection of meats that you can't get at Taco Bell, Casa Blanca, Rosie's, et al. I understand from a few comments online that El Cazador is run by the same folks with the taco-truck-in-a-shack at Triana and Drake and a truck that sometimes parks by Inergi on Governors. The asada tacos (served on two small, steamed corn tortillas with diced onions and cilantro) were divine. The #1 special is 4 tacos for $5 and some cents. I sampled four of their salsas that went from a mild pico de gayo to a SPICY red concoction with chunks of peppers and onions suspended in it.

OH, and there's a drive-thru if you can't stick around.
