I actually had a weekend
Jan. 12th, 2009 10:25 amI've been in a bit of a funk for a few months now because it seemed as if my weekends were completely lost. I acknowledge that I'm lucky to have the g'parents to kidnap the boys for 24 or so hours each weekend, the build up in November for Nigel's and Harper's birthdays and then the holiday rush and events depleted much of what free time the boys' absence allowed.
This weekend, however, I welcomed the boys back home content with both the level of productivity and rest I received. Not to say that Harper was cooperative with long naps and restful sleeping. She wasn't. She was a total bitch when it came to sleeping. But I guess the lack of holiday stuff to do freed me up to do the chores I wanted and needed to do.
Part of the fun this weekend was that I got to play around on a couple of new games we received for the Wii: Big Brain Academy and Outdoor Adventures. The Big Brain Academy is filled with memorization, identification, calculation, and other brain quizzes. I SUCK at the face memorization one (I could have easily have predicted that) but found out that I am the master at finding stuff in the shell game. I think that is the only exercise which I've obtained a gold medal on all difficulty levels. Outdoor Adventures comes with a mat and you get to do all sorts of exercise and games: tube slide, running, hurdles, rollerblading, trampoline, kayaking, mine-car race (where you have to "pump" the Wiimote up and down for acceleration), and "mountain boarding" which is like downhill snowboarding w/ ramps...on a road. I did some free play with the boys the other day, but it wasn't until Saturday evening when I decided to do a couple of "adventure series" of activities that I wore my body out. I'm not so worried about not having a Wii Fit yet considering the workout that this game is providing.
Now, I enjoy watching football. I grew up an Auburn fan and went to Alabama, but I've never been much into the NFL. While living in D.C. during the early 80's I became a Redskins fan since it was the Theisman/Riggins/Monk/Green/Gibbs era. Since college, I decided that I wanted to cheer for the newly-founded Carolina Panthers - just to have an NFL team. Their offensive style and some players such as Auburn-alum Stephen Davis kept that interest alive. I was completely against the Oilers when they came to Nashville. They were a pansy AFC team that I mostly knew for their ugly uniforms and their run & shoot offense they had w/ Warren Moon. While they were in Nashville, I saw a different team than what I previously known. By the time I left Nashville, I was a kinda-Titans fan.
So it was joy that I felt when I would get to watch the favored Panthers and Titans take on the Wild Card winners on Saturday. While I thought the games would be good, I was assured by the experts on TV that my teams were going to win. I WAS SO BUMMED! lol For the first time in a while, I was emotionally invested in two football games in one day and both of my teams lost. :( It stinks during the regular season when I'm mostly interested in individual players for the sake of fantasy football and how my post-season switch to cheering for teams beat me up this weekend.
