The Saturday Thaw-Out
Dec. 21st, 2008 07:41 amSome time between Friday evening and Saturday morning, the door for the stand-alone freezer in the garage didn't get completely closed. When I discovered the opened door, it had been long enough that enough frost had formed/melted (we've been SOAKED with rain) that all the boxes of food were soggy and most of it had thawed out enough that I had to throw them away. There were two packages of ground turkey from the back middle that were still solidly frozen. Otherwise, I had to throw away a good bit off food. Most of it was frozen bags of veggies, chicken nuggets, and the like. My work lunch took a hit with the loss of 5 boxes of Lean Cuisine paninis. Oh, and 3 quarts of Breyers ice cream were also trashed.
JD and I cleared it out and, taking advantage of the upper-60's temperatures, pulled the freezer onto the driveway to melt away the accumulated frost.
It really sucks to have lost that food, but JD's saved us so much money with her sales/coupons/bargain shopping in the past several months that I'm honestly not worried about that. The annoyance of having to clean up is really all that bothered me.
