I have such a love/hate relationship with fantasy football. About 1/3 of the time, I've dominated or lead a league. About half the time, I never find myself above a .500 record. The remainder is when I kinda float in the middle, barely finding or missing the playoff.

This year, I did one league and after a momentary flirtation with 4th (out of 10), I've spent most of the season floating in the bottom half of the rankings. This year is week after week of my setting up good rosters that then drastically underperform. So after a week or two, I swap out some players with better records and better projections. Some do as expected, but most suddenly seem allergic to the ball. I have Peyton Manning (boy, choosing him first in the draft DID NOT pay off this season!) and Jake Delhomme as my QBs and always seem to have the wrong one of the two playing each weekend. I could have picked Delhomme against Green Bay (in GB) but why do that when Peyton was playing the clunky Cleveland Browns? Peyton = 3 while Delhomme = 13. *sigh* This week, Kevin Smith (RB-Det) is my best scoring player with 12 points. Yes, a player from the abysmal Detroit Lions is my best performing player this week.

I just need to face the facts that fantasy football is more about luck than I generally like to think. Just like March Madness, intelligence of the facts may help one create a legitimate bracket...but picking teams based on which mascots or uniforms you like can just as easily win the office pool. All the more reason for me to stay in free leagues. My confidence may waver, but I'm not out any amount of money.

Next year, I'm going back to having two or three teams in different leagues. This one team a year has compounded my frustrations, not lessened them.
