Libertarian Paternalism
Jun. 25th, 2008 09:20 amGeorge Will has a very interesting piece in this week's Newsweek. He discusses a new book, "Nudge," and how default options can help make the govt and our society better.
While there are some great examples provided (making contributions to 401(k)'s the default rather than requiring an opt-in, the same with the organ donation question at Driver's License bureau), I am all for this being put to use - as long as people are aware of the option. Sure, let there be a form that gives me options and if I don't choose, it tells me which is the default that will be used. I'm all for providing options, I'm not for automatic enrollment with opting-out after the fact.
