I'm Home!

Things have gone a billion times better than what I was expecting after the surgery.

Getting up at 3am for my series of enemas and prep before going into the hospital was okay, but my nerves were getting more and more wound up as the morning went along. Checked in, flirted with the admission nurse, and was rolled into the operating room. I got to meet the staff before I began to breathe the good stuff.

I awoke in Recovery 90 minutes later completely refreshed. It felt like a new day. There was a bit of soreness where I pucker down below...but maybe the morphine drip had some effect on what I was feeling. About once an hour I clicked the button to give me a dose kThe rest of the day was spent lying in my hospital bed conversing with visitors and the nurses. Thanks so much to [livejournal.com profile] bluevinylangel for letting me babble on and on while she was there. A big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] valiskeogh for swinging by the room for us to finally meet f2f and providing me with a burned DVD copy of Airplane! Don't worry, Valis, one of the nurses came by later and brought me a player from another room. Watching that movie was much appreciated too help me end my night on a fun note.

While I got behind the "pain curve" last night while sleeping (only pressing the morphine button when I would awaken every couple of hours), I found that switching over to the Loratab actually worked better and was one more step toward my leaving today rather than tomorrow. Dr. Baird checked me out this morning and said that I was in good enough shape to leave today if the Loratab did the trick (didn't switch over until lunchtime), he'd release me early this afternoon. Just before lunch, I sat up for a sponge bath then stood up for the first time and the nurse guided me to the bathroom for a sitzbath. The toilet-top sitzbath is nice but I think it's going to get old quick having to do it 4 times a day.

I'm now home, JD just returned from Walgreens and Zaxby's with drugs and wings, and I'm looking forward to a nice evening at home watching NASCAR.
