I'm back!

A quick summary of what's happened...

Weekend:
Went with the Scouts in my troop to Camp Woodruff in northern Georgia to have a weekend working on their COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) course. They ended up dividing us up by age, so I spent the bulk of my time with adults from my troop and a troop from Alpharetta (just north of Atlanta...Alton Brown/Good Eats fans know it!) along with the two oldest Scouts. Shortly after they grouped us by age, the instructors paired us up and had us do some bonding stuff. As part of this first exercise each pair had a balloon they had to hold between them. While holding the balloon with just our noses, we had to share two unique things about ourselves. I immediately share that I had been arrested while riding the baggage carousel at Nashville's airport and that I was conceived in the women's dorm at Jacksonville State University. My partner was not quite as open - "I don't like pork and I'm married." *shrugs*

I really liked being teamed with the adults for the COPE course this time because the group gelled as a team a lot easier than the mixed-bag of young and old I was in last time. We tackled the challenges with inventiveness and there wasn't any sniping.

Saturday night ended with a campfire program. We invited the other troop to join us. This was a nice gesture, but as we had been learning during the day, the GA troop had no concept of what "punctuality" means. So, we were huddled around the fire killing time and one of the Scouts looked up and said, "Hey, Mr. Berry." He then asked if I had ever been arrested. Damn, someone overheard my comments earlier! I end up telling the story (to hear the radio broadcast of this click HERE). This leads to them inquiring about other stunts I did in radio. I guess, I was passed the baton to be the campfire storyteller and I ran with it. Since the Scout leading the inquisition is one that is always tardy to the leadership meeting each Wednesday night, I promised him that if he showed up on time this week to the meeting I'd let him listen to some of these broadcasts since I have edited versions. I also suggested that he call me to remind me (another weakness of this Scout - reminding folks on what they're responsible for at the troop meeting). Sure enough, he called to remind me and showed up EARLY for the leadership meeting last night.

I arrived home around 5pm Sunday evening. My body was dirty, exhausted, and achy. My head was throbbing!

Monday:
I went over to K's house to finish our preparation for Tuesday's media training. I organized the video clips and the PowerPoint presentation in the morning and was free to come home and do my personal research and prep by 2pm. Around that time, my headache started coming back. Monday night was a page out of college. Me pouring over pages of material trying to retain as much as possible and compiling notes for me to use during the rounds of interviews.

Tuesday:
RAIN, RAIN, RAIN - but because of my need to drive to the other side of town, I wasn't able to enjoy the weather. Other than some technical difficulties with the NASA-supplied camcorder, things went well. I think the only other thing I can really share was that I love starting the day disarming everyone with my boyish face, dimples, and perky demeanor...only to show what a kick-ass, confrontational journalist I can be when we get to the later rounds of interviews. Each media training I have a goal to punch a participant hard enough in the gut with a question (or line of questioning) that they are speechless. Then I want them to recover and not flinch when I come along with follow-up attacks. This group did well in this regard. However, as the afternoon rolled on, my headache started back.

Wednesday:
OMG, my head! Other than a quick trip for a JalapeƱo Thickburger at Hardee's, I stick to the confines of my home. K stayed home too, but was on the phone all day touching base and scheduling meetings.

Today:
I'm supposed to join her for meetings between noon and 3pm, but my head is bothering me again today. My nose has started to run with an occasional sneeze. I think I'm going to bow out of those meetings today. I really need to be with her for the meeting we have scheduled for tomorrow morning. The headache I've had this week is almost certainly sinus related. Other than yesterday morning (when it actually woke me up at 2am), it's mostly dull enough that it's more of an annoyance than a pain. I had hoped that when the rain finally left last night that the headache would go with it...Nah-uh.
