Nigel received a puzzle that makes sound effects for Christmas. Calvin has one that when you finish the puzzle (a train), then a train whistle sound plays. This one for Nigel is a group of 8 animals. Each one has a light sensor on the board, so, supposedly, when the piece of the puzzle is set in its place, the animal makes its sound. Now, I could post about how sad it is to hear a gerbil's eeking/squeaking noise...but this post is about how the puzzle is possessed.

Not a couple of days after Christmas, JD and I realized that this puzzle would be trouble. Nigel will pull pieces out and not put them back - I know, he's a year old and only does things half-assed *sigh*. Later, a light will be turned off or a cloud will block the sun and animal sounds will be heard. So I've been making an effort to ensure the pieces are back in the puzzle when I see Nigel playing with it. But having the pieces in their places doesn't satisfy the puzzle! It has begun to randomly make noises...whenever it wants! Since starting this post, the fish bubbling sound and the frogs ribbiting has come from this preschool tool for Satan. The pieces are snuggly in their place and the light exposure to the puzzle is minimal and constant.

I may be pulling the batteries out tonight if this keeps up.

List five weird habits/traits of yours, then tag five other people to do the same. Then post it in Ye Olde LJ for the whole damn world to see.

In order to ensure that the most "interesting" of the weird traits/habits make the list, the wife offered her advice on nominations.

1. I must cough when I get out of the shower/bath. - This is a purely involuntary thing. I knew that it was common for me to cough when I get out of the shower, but it wasn't until JD moved in with me that I knew it was habitual. I can consciously block myself from doing it, but a cough will occur when I stop thinking about it.

2. All cereal must soak in milk for a minimum of 15 minutes before I will touch it. - I ONLY eat soggy cereal. Crunchy cereal blows.

3. (TIE) My favorite drink is a mix of 1/2 OJ and 1/2 Mtn Dew. / I always ask for my soda without ice. - Discovered the combo drink by accident. It was very much like one of those old Reese's Cups commercials ("You got your peanut butter in my chocolate!"). My opinion on soda was formed overseas where they don't put ice in soda. I hate the taste of watered-down soda!

4. I can't spend less then 10 minutes (and typically spend 30) in the bathroom when "seeing a man about a dog." - Something that I guess I was raised to do. My dad disappeared each evening with the latest issue of Newsweek, Army Times, or Popular Mechanics/Science for a half hour to an hour. Sadly, my legs falling asleep while sitting on the toilet is a common occurrence.

5.My To Do List - I have a whiteboard in the kitchen. On it is a list of items that need to be done around the house. I must complete tasks daily in order for me to allow myself to relax for the day. I must accumulate 3 points daily. Most items are a single point. If it takes more time or is especially urgent, it will be graded higher. An item that has been on the list for a while may be increased a point to help motivate me to do it. A selection of the list:
Finish swing set
Anchor swing set (2)
CD Info (1/25 CDs)
Sew trench coat button
Roundup mulched area (2)
Run wire for Calvin's stereo
Along with these are doing ham/spam (1/hr) and exercise (1 for less than hour, 2 for 1hr+). Oh, mowing either the front/back yard is 1 (2 points if I also trimmed and other landscaping) and mowing both yards is 3. I cannot include basic household tasks like laundry, dishes, cooking, and such into this list. Mopping is an exception because I dislike it but put a lot of effort in when I do it - one of those "all or nothing" type things about me.
