Since Tivo grabbed "The Clockwork Orange" the other night, I've done a lot of thinking of reading the book again.

***Disclaimer***
My senior year in high school, I finally broke down and rented the movie. I only made it to the gang rape scene. It wasn't fear or horror as much as just getting "freaked out" by that kind of imagery. A few months later, I watched it with a fan of the movie and book. While I understood the reasoning for the graphic scenes, the movie only seemed to touch on what really intrigued me about the movie - free choice. The theme varied from the freedom that relaxed law enforcement allowed to an individual's ability to choose from their natural/nurtured behavior. The movie lead me to the book, which IMO is far superior to the movie. I'll spare you all of the reasons for now.
***End of Disclaimer***

The importance for me, really, is that I've never read a book twice. I've enjoyed reading for much of my life, but I never had any interest in re-reading books. There are numerous books that I've partially read but never finished because I lost my place and everything I read "seemed familiar." Admittedly a stupid reason not to finish a book...but anyways...

So here I am putting borrowing a copy of this book from the library on my To Do list and I can't help but wonder if maybe I don't want "The Clockwork Orange" to be my first repeat of a novel. There are plenty of Elmore Leonard books that would be delightful to do again. Maybe just trying to finish some of those books that I started but didn't finish (namely two of the Garrison Keillor Lake Wobegon books).

I don't want to think of the psychoanalysis underway if I do chose our fair hero, Alex.
