Feb. 24th, 2005 12:22 amKelly will certainly agree that I don't expound my love for Andy Partridge enough on LJ. Here is a post solely dedicated to worshipping him.
For the lost souls...Andy is the dominant figure of the (now two) men that make up XTC. Some of you might be familiar with "Dear God" or "Senses Working Overtime."
Part of the joy of Xmas, was the arrival of Fuzzy Warbles Volumes 1-4 into my life. These CDs are collections of demos that Andy has made through the years (XTC's been around for about 3 decades). Some of them have been recorded and placed on albums, but most of the songs never have been pressed before...they merely lingered in Andy's cupboards keeping the shelves free of dust. One of the amazing things about Mozart was that his compositions were often written down complete. He composed the music and then put it on paper. These demos show a lot of detail and thought that I don't expect on demos/bootlegs I get from other artists. It makes me ponder why these unreleased songs never saw the light of day previously. His liner notes offer explanation to some songs, though.
The song that is peaking my interest as of the past week or so is "Everything" on Vol. 1. It makes me wish I had heard this song back in college. Then I could have had one of those drunken, depressed, and lonely nights where I would have played this song over and over...while singing. Alas, a missed opportunity...wait... I need to remember the following (y'all please help me out here).
If I ever get the ability to send something back in time. I must transport copies of this song back to myself.
For the next month or so, check out a 3M mp3 of it here.
Here are the lyrics:
Everything (Andy Partridge)
Everything, everything, everything we ever thought or said
Went in a box labeled "Us" on a shelf in the back of your head
Everything, everything, everything we ever shared or did
Stored in a jar which I swear had "True Love" pencilled in on the lid
Now you're saying, now you're saying, now you're saying that you just don't love me anymore
Has there been a thief in your storehouse stealing away your memories?
Everything
Everything, everything, everything we ever dreamt or planned
You tell me just blew away like a fancy from some opened hand
Everything, everything, everything you say you felt for me
Is it all dust and denial as lifeless as some lunar sea?
Now you're saying, now you're saying, now you're saying that you just don't love me anymore
Has there been a thief in your storehouse stealing away all our memories?
And did he latch your locks and make your bells ring?
And did you let him in to steal away what we had together?
Just everything
Now you're saying, now you're saying, now you're saying that you just don't love me anymore
Has there been a thief in your storehouse stealing away all our memories?
Has there been a thief in your storehouse stealing away all our memories?
Has there been a thief in your storehouse stealing away all our memories?
Everything
